Consultant Surgeon & Surgical Data Scientist

Mr Saqib Rahman PhD FRCS

Practising at the Wessex Nuffield Hospital and Consultant at University Hospital Southampton.

Mr. Rahman specialises in minimally invasive hernia and gallbladder surgery, helping patients understand their options with clarity and confidence.

Graduating with distinction from Imperial College London, he completed a Royal College of Surgeons of England Senior Fellowship in Robotic & Minimal Access Surgery. He performs keyhole procedures designed to minimise pain and support a rapid return to normal life.

Uniquely, he holds a PhD in Surgical Data Science. By analysing national outcomes data, he ensures your treatment plan is guided by the best available evidence—combining precision surgery with measurable safety.

“Most patients are understandably anxious about surgery.

My role is to explain your condition clearly, discuss whether surgery is appropriate, and guide you through the safest plan for you.”

With expertise in both Laparoscopic (TAPP/TEP) and Open repairs, I tailor the approach to the individual.

I prioritise minimally invasive techniques where appropriate to reduce postoperative pain and numbness, allowing for a faster return to work and exercise. I also focus on groin hernia repair in women.
